Redirecting Your Communications

Someone sets up forwarding rules on your email or messaging accounts so copies of everything you receive are also sent to them — or so that certain messages are redirected and never reach you.

What You Might Notice

  • You're not receiving messages or emails you're expecting

People tell you they sent things you never received.

  • Email forwarding or filtering rules you didn't create

Check your email settings for unexpected forwarding addresses or filter rules.

  • The other person knows about emails or messages you received

They reference content from messages sent to you.

What You Can Do

  • Check email forwarding and filter rules immediately

Gmail: Settings > Forwarding. Also check Filters and Blocked Addresses.

  • Check app-specific forwarding

WhatsApp Web, Telegram sessions, and other apps may have active sessions forwarding your messages.

  • Change email passwords and review all connected apps

Remove any third-party app access you don't recognise.

Important: This resource provides general information, not personal advice. Every situation is different.
